World Wildlife Day 🐅🐘🌳
World Wildlife Day is celebrated on March 3rd every year which was proclaimed on 20th December 2013 by the United Nations General Assembly. The day acknowledges the significance of wildlife conservation as it addresses the need for protecting wildlife flora and fauna against the issues of urbanization, poaching, pollution, climate change, and illegal wildlife trade.
The theme for World Wildlife Day 2024 is “Connecting People and Planet: Exploring Digital Innovation in Wildlife Conservation”. This simply emphasizes the utilization of technological innovation in preserving biodiversity.
Technological enhancements have made a significant impact on wildlife conservation. The endangered species are protected through the use of camera traps, acoustic sensors, and drones which help in monitoring protected areas. Wildlife conservationists gather real-time data through satellite technology and dive into deep learning of wildlife flora and fauna through apps and software. Moreover, the areas of research, communication, tracking, and DNA analysis are also developed with the advancement of technological innovations.
Encouraging sustainable digital wildlife conservation, the day serves as an opportunity to build a network that steps up against wildlife crime and human-induced reduction of species. Hence, the awareness of addressing various economic, environmental, and social issues that occur due to biodiversity loss can be spread stronger than ever with the use of digital platforms. By celebrating this salient occasion, let us embark on this journey of embracing the beauty that nature brings!
