World Environment Day 🌲🌏
Earth is what we all have in common, said Wendell Berry. However, to keep global warming below 1.5°C this century, annual greenhouse gas emissions must be halved by 2030. Plastic waste entering aquatic ecosystems is projected to nearly triple by 2040. Urgent action is needed to address these critical environmental issues. Such a call for action is given by World Environment Day. World Environmental Day has been held annually on the fifth of June since 1973 and is led by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). The day focuses on uniting. millions of earth protectors working on protecting and restoring the earth globally. This day highlights the critical environmental issues that question the earth’s existence at the time of celebration. It is the largest global platform for environmental outreach.2024 marks the 30th anniversary of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification. This year, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will host the event under the theme “Our Land. OurFuture. #GenerationRestoration”. It will focus on land restoration, desertification, and drought resilience. We, mere human beings, cannot reverse the past, but we have the power to grow forests, restore water sources, and rejuvenate soils. Our generation has the opportunity to heal and harmonize with the land. Let us take action to show that we as ZeroPlastic Eco Warriors, we genuinely care about the environment.
