The ban on single use and short term use of plastics

 

The ban on single use and short term use of plastics will come into effect from 31st March by the Extraordinary Gazette Notification No. 2211/51 dated 21st January 2021 regarding the regulation of plastics.
Accordingly, the ban applies to polyethylene terephthalate (PET) or polyvinyl chloride (PVC) liquid for packaging agrochemicals used in any process, trade or industry.
It is also prohibited to use anything other than the following specific plastic items for any process, trade or industry.

  1. Sachet equivalent to 20 ml / l net weight 20 g / l net weight (less than for use in food and medicine packaging)
  2. Inflatable Toys – (except balloons, balls, floating / swimming pools and water sports equipment)
  3. The use of Cotton Buds (excluding plastic cotton buds used for medical / clinical treatment) is prohibited.

In this regard, the type of plastic used for any plastic product should be mentioned in the Gazette Notification No. 2211/50 dated 21st January 2021.Mandatory.
