On March 25th, 2024, marine enthusiasts and environmental advocates convened virtually via Zoom for the impactful “Sustain Session 2.0 – Blue Wave: A Plastic-Free Future”. Organized by the Zero Plastic – Rajarata University of Sri Lanka and led by Mr. Isuru Dapsara Kularathna, University Coordinator of the Zero Plastic National Movement, the event galvanized attendees with passionate discussions and profound insights into the perils of plastic pollution.

Throughout the two-hour session, participants delved into the intricate lifecycle of plastics, their detrimental effects on ecosystems, and the alarming presence of microplastics in our oceans. Mr. Kularathna’s expertise illuminated strategies for combatting plastic pollution, emphasizing the urgent need for collective action to safeguard marine life and human well-being.

The event was not merely informational but transformational, sparking a palpable sense of duty among participants. It underscored the importance of individual and community-driven initiatives in fostering sustainable practices. Attendees left empowered with practical knowledge and a renewed commitment to effecting positive environmental change.

The success of the event lay not only in its informative sessions but also in its ability to cultivate a shared responsibility towards environmental stewardship. By fostering meaningful dialogue and promoting actionable strategies, “Sustain Session 2.0” inspired a new wave of advocates dedicated to realizing a plastic-free future.
