Publishing University Projects – Conducted by
Zero Plastic in Ocean University of Sri Lanka

We are excited to announce the successful projects of our University’s Zero Plastic
Organization, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at reducing plastic waste and promoting
sustainability. This article focuses on sayurala awareness program, conducted by Ocean
University of Sri Lanka with the guide of the University Coordinator.

On the 26th of February in 2024, Modara Ananda Vidyalaya hosted an immersive experience aimed at educating students about the alarming impact of plastic on our environment. The project, called Sayurala – Step 02, consisted of interactive sessions and practical demonstrations that provided participants with a deeper understanding of the importance of a plastic-free lifestyle.

The project was designed to raise awareness about the harmful effects of plastic on our planet and to encourage students to adopt more sustainable practices. Through engaging activities and hands-on learning, participants were able to see firsthand the impact that plastic waste has on our environment and the steps that can be taken to reduce it.

One of the key messages of the project was the importance of reducing single-use plastics. Participants learned about the various alternatives to plastic, such as reusable bags, bottles, and containers, and were encouraged to make small changes in their daily lives to reduce their plastic consumption.

The project also highlighted the importance of proper waste management and recycling. Participants learned about the different types of plastic and how they can be recycled, as well as the negative consequences of improper disposal of plastic waste.

Overall, Sayurala – Step 02 was a successful initiative that helped to raise awareness about the impact of plastic on our environment and encouraged students to adopt more sustainable practices. By educating the next generation on the importance of a plastic-free lifestyle, we can work towards a cleaner, healthier planet for all.
