Save Our Planet – Beach Cleanup

Publishing University Projects – Conducted by
Zero Plastic in Ocean University of Sri Lanka

We are excited to announce the successful projects of our University’s Zero Plastic
Organization, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at reducing plastic waste and promoting
sustainability. This article focuses on Save Our Planet – Beach Cleanup, A climate action project by Zero plastic in NIBM with Zero Plastic in Ocean University of Sri Lanka

On the 8th of February 2024, a group of dedicated environmental enthusiasts from Zero Plastic in NIBM and Zero Plastic in Ocean University of Sri Lanka joined forces for a beach cleanup initiative at Wellawaththa Beach. The project, titled “Save Our Planet,” aimed to raise awareness about the importance of preserving our oceans and beaches by tackling plastic pollution head-on.

The volunteers gathered at Wellawaththa Beach equipped with gloves, trash bags, and a shared commitment to making a positive impact on the environment. Together, they combed the shoreline, collecting plastic waste and other debris that had washed ashore or been left behind by beachgoers.

The beach cleanup served as a powerful reminder of the urgent need to address the issue of plastic pollution, which poses a significant threat to marine life and ecosystems. By taking action at the local level, the participants hoped to inspire others to join the fight against plastic pollution and work towards a cleaner, healthier planet for future generations.

The collaboration between Zero Plastic in NIBM and Zero Plastic in Ocean University of Sri Lanka showcased the importance of coming together to address environmental challenges. Through collective action and community engagement, the volunteers demonstrated that small efforts can lead to significant change when it comes to protecting our planet.

As the sun set on Wellawaththa Beach, the volunteers reflected on their day’s work and the impact they had made. By working together to clean up the beach and raise awareness about plastic pollution, they had taken a meaningful step towards creating a more sustainable future for all.
