Breath to Nature : Planting Mangrove for future

On 15th of March 2025 ZeroPlastic Rajarata conducted a mangrove tree planting program in Pubudugama Mangrove Conservation site, Wanathawilluwa, Puttlam. After having breif tea for breakfast which was provided by the Divisional forest office Puttlam at Galwila Eco Park Center, ZP volunteers went to the site. At the site in the morning volunteers planted mangrove saplings with the guidance of the forest officers at the site which is situated near the Puttlam lagoon. This restoration land was previously illegally used for shrimp cultivation and now forest department has obtained it and use as a conservation site. Many schools, universities and NGO and other organizations coloborate on this long term project and they use this site for the deminstrations and projects for applicable requests. Then again volunteers reached to the Galwila Ecopark center and had lunch. After that breif awareness session was conducted by the Forest Department Diisional forest office officers about the contribution of forest department to Sri lankan Natural environment and their tasks and about mangrove ecosystems. This was a valuable opportunity for all the volunteers. Special thanks goes to Mr. T.A.K.J. Thennakoon ,Divisional Forest Officer and the staff for their undeniable Support to our volunteers. This project was a great success and more than 43 ZeroPlastic Volunteers and 3 other voulnteers participated and gave their constant support for the success of this event.
