On March 13, 2024, the ZeroPlastic Unit of CINEC Campus launched the first installment of the Talking Plastic Series at Subhuthi Maha Vidyalaya in Battaramulla. Aimed at educating and engaging students and staff on the critical issue of plastic pollution, the event saw the participation of 260 students from Grades 6 and 7, exceeding the initial target of 250 participants.
The primary objective of Series 1.0 was to inform attendees about the pervasive and long-term impacts of single-use plastics on wildlife and marine life. Through comprehensive presentations and interactive sessions, students and staff were encouraged to think critically about their plastic consumption and its effects on the environment.
The outcomes of this project were significant. Participants left with a deeper understanding of sustainable and biodegradable alternatives to plastic. The program also aimed to influence broader community actions, including advocating for stricter regulations on plastic disposal. Students expressed their newfound awareness and shared feedback on how the session had inspired them to adopt more eco-friendly practices.
