The project was conducted on 17th February 2024, from 9.00 am to 12.00 pm in Kumbichchamkulama lake.
There were over 60 participants from the zeroplastic Rajarata community and about 20 participants from Anuradhapura Municipal Council including public health officer, public health inspectors, labourers and other officers. It was done in two parts,an awareness programme and a cleaning programmme.
ZeroPlastic Rajarata Volunteer Students conducted an awareness program, especially for people category who consume the lake resources, like jogging people, neighbors, and sellers near the lake area. This awareness program aimed to facilitate the importance of reducing the usage of plastics, the negative consequences to humans and the environment and why should go to plastic-free alternatives.
From this phase, available plastic was collected near the lake area differentiated into respective categories and provided to the respective institution, the Municipal Council of Anuradhapura. From that, we could reduce available plastic items in the lake area.
