Environmental pollution from lunch sheets is a significant issue today, but an innovative solution has emerged in the form of the Easy Food Packet. We are delighted to introduce Tharushi Vidushika Rajapaksha, a remarkable young entrepreneur from Rathnapura, who has developed this eco-friendly alternative. Currently a third-year student in the Department of Mass Communication and Creative Arts at Colombo University, Tharushi has already received numerous accolades, including the ‘Vanitha Bhimani ‘ award for Best Emerging Entrepreneur in 2022 and a silver medal at the 2019 Korea International Youth Olympiad.
Her Easy Food Packet is designed to replace harmful lunch sheets with a sustainable option. The process involves placing rice on a circular sheet, tying it with an attached string, and then placing it in an envelope-shaped cloth bag. This innovative packaging is reusable and safe for both the environment and human health. Tharushi faced many challenges, particularly in ensuring health safety and sourcing raw materials, but her determination and hard work paid off. Today, her company employs five permanent workers, with additional temporary staff hired for larger orders.
Family support has been crucial in Tharushi’s journey, with her parents playing a significant role in her success. Her father, an award-winning mechanic and innovator, provided invaluable guidance and inspiration. She has created a product that not only reduces environmental impact but also promotes eco-friendly practices in everyday life.
If you are interested in the Easy Food Packet or have any questions, feel free to reach out to her at 077 6035707 for more information. The Zero Plastic Unit of the Rajarata University of Sri Lanka extends heartfelt gratitude to Tharushi for her contribution and wishes her continued success in her endeavors.
