Legislative Innovations: Pioneering Solutions to the Plastic Crisis

We are thrilled to announce the formation of the Law Student Alliance of the ZeroPlastic Movement! This groundbreaking club unites law students from all faculties and colleges across Sri Lanka with a shared mission: addressing the legislative gaps in environmental protection, greenwashing, and plastic pollution.

Why the Law Student Alliance?
Plastic pollution is one of the most pressing environmental issues of our time. Despite numerous efforts to curb plastic use, legislative gaps still exist, often allowing harmful practices to continue unchecked. The Law Student Alliance is poised to fill these gaps by leveraging the legal acumen of future lawyers who are passionate about sustainability.

The Role of Law Students
Our talented law students will lead the charge in crafting innovative legal solutions to tackle the pressing issues of plastic waste. By combining their legal expertise and passion for sustainability, they will play a crucial role in driving forward impactful legislative changes. Their work will focus on:

Identifying and addressing gaps in current environmental laws.
Proposing new legislation to reduce plastic use and mitigate pollution.
Raising awareness about the dangers of greenwashing and advocating for transparency in environmental claims.

Upcoming Event: Law Students’ Conference
To kickstart this initiative, we are hosting the Law Students’ Conference on July 13th at 9:00 AM. The conference, themed “Legislative Innovations: Pioneering Solutions to the Plastic Crisis,” will feature Prof. Camena Guneratne, an esteemed attorney-at-law with an impressive academic background including LLB (Colombo), LLM (Harvard), and Ph.D. (Waikato, New Zealand). Prof. Guneratne will share her insights on the intersection of law and environmental protection, inspiring our law students to become champions of change.

Join Us
We invite all law students and environmental enthusiasts to join us in this vital initiative. By participating, you will have the opportunity to contribute to meaningful legislative reforms and make a real impact on the fight against plastic pollution.

Stay tuned for more updates on our initiatives and how you can get involved! Together, we can pave the way for a cleaner, greener future.
